This interesting and unusual treasure map extends from the Rio Grande River to the Florida panhandle, and is filled with text describing various hidden treasures on both land and sea where numerous X's mark the spot. A few of the treasures noted include a “Mexican cannon filled with gold pushed into river here after battle with Texans in 1836” and “Steinheimer’s Treasure of 10 burro loads of pure gold buried in 1827.” The map also notes the location of four of Pirate Lafitte’s caches along the coast, three of which were in Texas. Copious illustrations supplement the text showing the diverse nature of treasure seekers including “Spanish Conquistadores, Pirates, Explorers, Miners, Prospectors, Indians and Cowboys.” Issued “Compliments of your Sinclair Dealer” (Sinclair Oil Corporation) at lower left. We found only one past sales record for this map and no institutional holdings on OCLC.
