This 106-page report concerning the drainage issue in New Orleans was issued by the City Council's Advisory Board and printed by T. Fitzwilliam & Company. The text notes that “the drainage of the City of New Orleans, is in an extraordinarily disastrous condition” and the Board’s report includes project recommendations, execution, and cost estimates. 12 plates accompany the report, including the following four maps by L.W. Brown, City Engineer:
A. General Map of the Parish of Orleans, Showing Location of Outfalls and Portions to Be Drained (19.8 x 15.5"). Condition: Light scattered foxing with a couple archival repairs to a fold separation and edge tear at left.
B. Contour Map of New Orleans (20.9 x 17.2"). Condition: A short binding tear at left has been repaired with old tape on verso with some staining visible on recto.
C. Map of New Orleans Showing Present Drainage System (17.3 x 17.0"). Condition: A binding tear at left that extends 2.5" into the image has been repaired with old tape on both recto and verso.
D. Map of New Orleans Showing Proposed Drainage System (17.3 x 17.0"). Condition: A binding tear confined to the left blank margin has been repaired with old tape on both recto and verso.
The Board's recommendations for canals, outfalls and pumping stations were by and large implemented and since have served as the basis of the New Orleans drainage system. We found one past sales record and three institutional examples on OCLC.
