This scarce map of New York extends from the Battery north to 40th Street, extending across the East River to include Brooklyn and Williamsburg. Based upon David Burr's 1833 map of the city, this version was drawn by William Kemble and published by Edward Walker. The street-grid pattern is well laid out, wards are shown in hand coloring, and there is excellent detail of important buildings, parks, docks, ferries, and more. An unusual feature of this map is the location of Masonic and Odd Fellow lodges with a corresponding key at lower left (apparently these lodges were included because Walker was an Odd Fellow). Folds into brown boards (3.5 x 5.8") with gilt title on the front cover. We found no examples of this 1851 edition on OCLC and 7 total examples from the 1846 and 1848 editions.
