This two-sheet map illustrates the Roman Empire in the year 400 AD, and includes all of western Europe, northern Africa, and south-central Asia. The map is flanked by insets showing the modern world in Western and Eastern hemispheres. It is filled with extensive notations, including one indicates that a gold coin stamped with the effigy of Augustus Caesar was found in an American gold mine, confirming the probability that the Roman penetrated as far as the New World.
