This spectacular bird's-eye panorama of Oxford was published as a supplement to the June 18, 1870 edition of The Illustrated London News. The view showcases the architecture of Oxford, centering on Radcliffe Camera and the University Church of St. Mary the Virgin. Many notable churches and buildings related to the University are depicted, and there is lovely detail of Christ Church Meadow. In the foreground, the Oxford University Boat Club competes in a rowing race along the Isis while onlookers cheer. This example is mounted on linen.
