This stunning bird's-eye view shows the Crimean Peninsula at the time of the Crimean War (1853-1856), a war between the Russian Empire and several European powers for influence over territories of the declining Ottoman Empire. It centers roughly on Sevastopol, depicting the city, bay, and nearby fortifications in great detail. It extends south to Balaclava and spans into the distance to Eupatoria (Yevpatoriya).
