This rare and beautifully designed pictorial map of the Crimean Peninsula and the Caucasus spans from Odessa to Baku. It was issued by Intourist, the primary tourist agency for foreign visitors to the Soviet Union. Several cities are identified and accompanied by a small illustration showcasing the architecture, including Sevastopol, Zaporizhzhia, Rostov-on-Don, Sochi, Batumi, Tbilisi, and Yerevan. Railroads and ship routes are delineated, and the mountainous topography is rendered in an eye-catching graphic style. An ornate compass rose fills a vast blank in the Soviet landscape. One of the railroads leads to Stalingrad, dating this to the Stalin era. Printed in the Soviet Union with the imprint of Mezhdunarodnaya Kniga, the Soviet agency for book exports. Issued folding, this example is mounted on linen and accompanied by the original pictorial brochure covers, which include the stamp of the "Ask Mr. Foster" travel agency.
