Heinrich Rudolf Schinz was a teacher of medicine and natural history in Zurich. He produced a series of illustrated books on natural history from 1824-52 on humans, mammals, birds, amphibians and fish. This set of prints were lithographed by Karl Joseph Brodtmann and published in Naturhistorische Abbildungen der Saeugethiere, Schinz' volume on mammals, which included humans from non-European countries. Included are:
A. Ein Tatuirter aus Nukahiwa, (6.6 x 10.5"). Tattooed (Aboriginal) Man of Nuku Hiva from the Marquesas Islands in French Polynesia. Condition: A bright sheet with scattered foxing.
B. Ein Tatuirter Mann aus Nukahiwa, (6.6 x 9.3"). Tattooed (Aboriginal) Man of Nuku Hiva from the Marquesas Islands in French Polynesia. Condition: Light soiling.
