A. Collecting Old Maps, by F.J. Manasek, published 2002 (8.8 x 11.3"). A major reference work for those seriously interested in starting a map collection. In the preface, the author states that he is writing for people who wish to acquire collectable maps, and he therefore uses maps that are available and not too expensive as his examples. The practical book addresses the issues of forgeries, condition, identification, research, purchasing, and collection care. A valuable reference for the novice collector as well as long-time serious collector. 314 pages, 250 illustrations in black and white and color. Hardbound with dust jacket. Signed by the author. Condition: Like new, with negligible shelf wear to the dust jacket. (A+)

B. Antique Maps of Europe, the Americas, West Indies, Australasia, Africa, the Orient, by Douglas Gohm, published 1972 (9.6 x 12.9"). This informative book provides an excellent survey of the world of map and print collecting for both new and experienced collectors. It is illustrated with 24 color plates and another 78 in B&W. It features a helpful glossary. 190 pages, plus an index. Hardbound in brown cloth with an illustrated dust jacket protected by Mylar. Condition: Contents are lightly dampstained along the edges, and the front hinge is cracked. Covers are dampstained and slightly bowed. Dust jacket has dampstains and some short tears. (B)
