This fascinating reference was compiled by J.B. Post, free librarian at the Free Library of Philadelphia, which was at the time of publication the largest collection of maps in the United States that was open to the public. It is a wide-ranging compendium of maps of imaginary lands from literary sources, each accompanied by black & white illustrations. Among the fictional worlds described in the book are Eden, Hell, the environs of Toad Hall from The Wind in the Willows, Pooh's Turf, Oz, Treasure Island, Faulkner's Yoknapatawpha County, Thomas More's Utopia, Middle-earth, Barsoom, Earthsea, Atlantis, and more. If you have ever gotten lost in the hand-drawn maps preceding a fantasy novel, this volume is for you. Published by Mirage Press, a Baltimore-based small press specializing in science fiction and fantasy material. Second printing. 283 pages. Hardbound in black cloth with gilt titles on spine and an illustrated dust jacket protected by Mylar.
