This pair of deeply researched volumes details two exhibitions held by the National Museum of Fine Arts, Valleta, showcasing maps from the collection of Dr. Albert Ganado, the Maltese lawyer, historian, and collector of Melitensia. Miniature Maps of Malta (2009) lists 90 small maps of Malta, ordered alphabetically by cartographer. Among the mapmakers whose work is highlighted are Pierre Du Val, Allain Manesson-Mallet, Herman Moll, Abraham Ortelius, Sebastian Munster and Heinrich Petri, and Girolamo Porro and Tommaso Porcacchi. German Malta Maps (2011), co-written by Ganado and Joseph Schiro, is the catalog for the exhibition of Malta maps by German cartographers, authors, and engravers that topped the program at the IMCoS Malta International Symposium in 2011. It lists 78 maps, including works from Karl Baedeker, Gabriel Bodenehr, Braun & Hogenberg, Johann Baptist Homann, Mattheus Merian, Matthaus Seutter, and Christopher Weigel. Each entry in both volumes is accompanied by an illustration and detailed description. Miniature Maps of Malta was published by Midsea Books Ltd.; 127 pages. German Malta Maps was published by BDL Publishing; 190 pages. Illustrated soft covers.
