This lot features two sheets of Hawaiian views from mid-19th-century periodicals. The first sheet shows a view of Honolulu, "the royal residence, and a place of considerable trade," with a growing American population, according to the text above the scene. The second sheet includes six illustrations highlighting the customs of native Hawaiians. In 1855, Gleason's Pictorial Drawing-Room Companion changed hands to managing editor Maturin Murray Ballou; thereafter the publication was called Ballou's Pictorial Drawing-Room Companion.
