Robert Brightman and Robert Gatechair designed this uncommon "animated historical map" of Elgin, Illinois for the local branch of the American Association of University Women. It locates historical houses, the town hall, the dairy center, and much more. Among the sites are a large Borden's malted milk container (Gail Borden established a condensed milk factory in the town), the cabin of city founder James T. Gifford, and the factory of Elgin Watch Company, which was the largest watchmaking complex in the world at the time. Across the Fox River, an Indigenous man sits by his teepee in the forest preserve, a golfer and his caddy stroll by, and an early settler naps under a tree. A classroom window on the top floor of Elgin High School is identified as the origin of this map. The decorative border incorporates a watch, butter, and portraits of notable figures.
