This striking engraving depicts the Strait of Gibraltar between the Coste d'Europe and the Coste d'Afrique. The coasts are illustrated with mountainous topography, extending from Cadiz to Gibraltar in Spain, and from Tanger to Ceuta in Morocco. A drape-style inset continues the coastline from Cadiz to Cape St. Vincent, Portugal. Two compass roses orient north to the left of the chart, and the waters are teeming with ships, some engaged in battle. Engraved by C. Inselin.
