A. Treaty with the Creek Indians. Message from the President of the United States, Transmitting a Copy of a Treaty, Concluded on the 15th Day of November, 1827..., published 1828. This document contains the last of a series of controversial treaties by which the Creek Indians ceded the remainder of their lands in Georgia. The land consisted of 192,000 acres for which the Creeks received about 25 cents per acre in cash and supplies. The Creek cessions involved fraud detailed in the following document. Disbound, 8 pages. Condition: Light toning and minor staining. (B+)

B. Alleged Frauds on Creek Indians. Message from the President of the United States, Transmitting Information in Relation to Alleged Frauds on the Creek Indians in the Sale of Their Reservations, published 1838. This report documents the frauds committed in the sale of Creek lands that remained a matter of contention between the Creek Nation and the federal government for a century. In 1933 the U.S. Supreme Court considered the issue in Creek Nation v. United States. The Court referred to this report which “confirmed the findings…of previous investigators that many glaring frauds had been perpetrated upon the Indians in the sale of their lands.” Although the Court found little evidence of actions taken on the frauds, nonetheless it sided with the U.S. Government and dismissed the claims of the Creek Nation. Disbound, 102 pages. Condition: Clean and bright with a stamp on the title page of the Office of the Secretary of the Interior. (A)
