A. A Battlefield Atlas of the Civil War, by Craig L. Symonds, published 1987, printed color (7.2 x 10.3"). This is the second edition of this interesting work featuring 45 original maps of Civil War battles by cartographer William J. Clipson. 110 pages. Hardbound in red with gilt titles on spine and an illustrated dust jacket. Condition: Near fine. Dust jacket has minor shelf wear and a small chip. (A)

B. Mapping the Civil War Featuring Rare Maps from the Library of Congress, by Christopher Nelson, published 1992, printed color (8.3 x 10.6"). This interesting Civil War book features rare maps from the Library of Congress and a number of photographs and illustrations. These collected maps, some never published and many in manuscript form, show us a new face of this historic war. The captions are by Brian Pohanka, and the foreword is by Richard Stephenson. 176 pages. Hardbound in blue cloth with illustrated dust jacket. Condition: Like new. (A+)

C. Civil War Newspaper Maps - A Historical Atlas, by David Bosse, published 1993, black & white (8.8 x 11.3"). This Civil War reference presents 45 newspaper maps printed by the Union Daily Press. The accompanying text summarizes the military operations illustrated by the maps. The commentary on the maps themselves shows how advances in printing and engraving technology in the 19th century, coupled with the public demand for information, led to the development of a new means of mass communication: the quickly produced newspaper battlefield map. 162 pages. Hardbound in blue cloth. Condition: Minor shelf wear. (A)
