This rare and charming promotional map of Manhattan was issued by the Hotel New Yorker, which is the most prominent of the buildings depicted on the map, towering over the Empire State Building, Rockefeller Center, and the Chrysler Building. The Hotel New Yorker opened in 1930 in Hell's Kitchen. According to the promotional text on verso from original operator Ralph Hitz, the hotel contained "2500 rooms, each with bath, shower, radio, Servidor..... priced from $3!" The Art Deco building still stands and is now owned by the Unification Church, with its upper stories still operating as a hotel run by Wyndham. The map shows various attractions across Manhattan, accompanied by cartoonish illustrations. The aquarium is depicted as a goldfish bowl; an painter works at his easel in Greenwich Village; a man waving a red flag shouts on his soapbox in Union Square; a jazz band lets it rip in Harlem. A color-coded legend at top left identifies subway and elevated lines, and there is an index to points of interest at bottom right. A listing on verso notes "ye recreational things to do in New York" in the autumn of 1936. Self-folding into pictorial wrappers (7.3 x 10.4"). Printed by Latz Inc.
