This small but striking bird's-eye view depicts Fort Cépérou (or Fort Saint Louis) in Cayenne, French Guiana. In the decades preceding the publication of this plan, the French settlers in Cayenne repeatedly clashed with the Dutch and British. Reflecting that turbulence, the plan shows skirmishing ships and firing cannons. From a German edition of Mallet's renowned Description de l'Univers. Blank verso.
