This entertaining lot contains 5 spinning wheel fact maps and a pair of folding globes. The spinning wheel fact maps are vintage educational maps that present statistics about the United States, North America, and Europe in a novel way. The maps are printed on a cardboard volvelles that can be rotated to reveal information on individual states or nations. Typical information includes area, population, capital city, exports, and more. The United States At-a-Glance wheel comes with its original envelope.
The folding globes were an inexpensive alternative to proper globes for students, and given that they were published during World War II, they would have been a very useful tool for understanding the geography of news from the front. The Plano-Sphere globe comes in two interlocking cardboard pieces, while the Fold-o-Globe is in one piece that butterflies out to form a globe. Text on the Fold-o-Globe makes the bold claim that it "presents the first important innovation in the Art of Map-making in 474 years --- a continuous map projection designed to show at a glance the important Countries and Cities of the World and the true relationship of one Continent to the other."
