This lovely hand-colored engraving depicts a female European golden plover among the grass. It appeared in the third volume of Nederlandsche Vogelen. Published in 5 volumes from 1770 to 1829, Nederlandsche Vogelen is an early landmark natural history work covering the avi-fauna of the Netherlands. The third volume featured engraving work by Jan Christaan Sepp and his son Jan and text by Martinus Houttuyn, taking over for Cornelius Nozeman.

Full contemporary color on a sheet with a Strasbourg lily watermark. There are some tiny edge tears and chips along the right sheet edge.
