This graphic scene illustrating the Battle of Malaga represents the only large fleet battle in the War of Spanish Succession. British ships at right, under the direction of Sir George Rook, are shown firing upon the French fleet at left, under the direction of Comte de Toulouse ,with numerous French ships ablaze and men being launched high in the air from canon fire. While the engraving conveys a British victory, there was no clear winner after this one-day engagement. The Anglo-Dutch fleet withdrew while French forces returned to Toulon. Published by William Rayner.
