This is the U.S. Department of State edition of this information-packed map created by the General Drafting Company. The main map features over 700 drawings in full color showing points of interest, natural resources, and agricultural products. At bottom are inset maps showing railroad lines, air routes, and highways. A small note at the bottom states, "Copies of this map may be obtained free of charge for distribution in countries outside the United States and its territories and possessions, upon application to the nearest United States Information Service office." As PJ Mode notes in his entry on the German-language edition of this map, "It's likely that the government published these maps and distributed them around the world as part of the Cold War effort to counter the messages of the Soviet Union." This map was reissued several times, in other languages and with various sponsors, including the New Jersey Bell Telephone Company and Department of State.
