This pictorial map was produced by the General Drafting Company and published by the Standard Oil Company to tell "a pictorial story of the petroleum industry in the United States." The map features illustrations of oil uses for each state including jet fuel, rubber, engine lubricants, wax paper, and many more. Includes three inset maps at top showing producing states, pipelines, and refineries. The verso has text on the contributions of the oil industry to the American economy and standard of living. Hornsby notes that "the map’s spare aesthetic, common on many ‘gas maps’ of the time, reflects the shift from art deco to modernism in American art and architecture.” Self-folding into pictorial paper wrappers (4.3 x 8.0").
