This attractive pair of world maps is based upon murals created by painter N.C. Wyeth which decorated Hubbard Memorial Hall, the National Geographic Society's first formal library. While the maps themselves are based upon modern information and political boundaries, the style and decorative elements are characteristic of 16th century maps including depictions of Zeus, Poseidon, a wind head, and several explorers. The murals also served as the frontispiece to the March, May, July, November and December magazine issues from 1928.
