This wonderful engraving depicts an international rifle-match between American and English marksmen in Creedmoor, Queens County, Long Island. The contest grounds are described as follows in the text on verso: "As level as a billiard-table, they afford twenty separate ranges, each of which can be used at distances varying from a hundred to a thousand yards, without the use of elevated firing stands, found necessary upon most English and Canadian rifle-ranges." The team of American marksmen claimed victory in this match. Published in the October 6th, 1877 issue of The Illustrated London News.
