This excellent Italian plan of Santo Domingo depicts the Rio Ozama and the fortifications of the Ciudad Colonial, which is the oldest continuously inhabited European settlement in the Americas. Santo Domingo was the first seat of the Spanish Empire in the New World. The plan identifies 18 locations of interest, including Alcazar de Colon, the first fortified European castle built in the Americas, and the Cathedral of Santo Domingo, the oldest cathedral in the Americas. Engraved by Violante Vanni.
