This elegantly engraved view depicts Salvador from the vantage of the Baya de Todos los Sanctos. In the foreground are several boats in the waters of the bay, while the city sits above the scene on a clifftop. A line of figures traverse the road up to the city. Salvador is one of the oldest cities in the Americas founded by Europeans and the capital of Colonial Brazil until 1640. Engraved by Sherwin. Another edition of this view appeared in George Millar's New and Universal System of Geography (circa 1782), with an imprint in the upper border.
