This crudely printed handbill, issued by the U.S. Communist Party, was created to coincide with the first Armistice Day federal holiday in the United States, celebrating the veterans of World War I. The text decries the rise of fascism in Germany, China and Spain and promotes a glorified view of the Soviet Union and the “liberty-loving people” of America, who must join forces to lead the world to peace and liberty. Specific actions are called for, including quarantining the aggressors and boycotting Japanese goods. Crude maps of the Soviet Union with a hammer and sickle and neighboring Alaska with the Statue of Liberty frame and reinforce the political message that the Soviet Union and United States share a common desire for peace and freedom. The text concludes with the text “Keep America Out of War by Keeping War Out of the World.” Armistice Day subsequently was renamed “Veterans’ Day.” Penned date in lower right corner. We found no past sales records or institutional examples on OCLC for this document.
