A superb bird's-eye plan of the fortified city of Steenwijk, surrounded by a moat. The St. Clemens church takes a place of prominence in the city. Adorned with the arms of the city at right and the county of Holland at left, as well as a title cartouche featuring soldiers on horseback. This is the first state, published in Blaeu's town atlas of the Netherlands. Latin text on verso.

A nice impression with full contemporary color on a bright sheet with a large watermark of the god Atlas. There are a couple of small worm holes in the image and minor marginal soiling.
