This map was first published in Blaeu's town atlas of Italy in 1663; the plates were later sold to Mortier, who re-issued the atlas in 1704-05. It is a stunning bird's-eye plan of Taranto with excellent detail of the buildings, roads, fortifications, and surrounding countryside. A numbered key at bottom identifies over 50 locations in the plan. The map is adorned with a decorative title cartouche and two coats of arms, one of which is blank. This is the third state, with the addition of the plate number "25" at bottom right. This example was published in Rutgert Alberts' re-issue of Mortier's town atlas of Italy.

References: Van der Krogt (Vol. IV) #4256.

Condition: B+

A sharp impression with professional repairs to a 2" tear in the numbered key at bottom and to some worm tracks along the centerfold at top, with a minor amount of the title replaced in facsimile. There are faint mildew stains in the bottom corners of the sheet.
