This "newsmap" was issued on December 25, 1944, and covers the news from December 13-20, 1944 - the 276th week of the war. The recto contains a large sphere of the Pacific theater of war along with smaller inset maps of Mindoro, "Western Action", and "Red Army" to accompany the text. The verso of the newsmap contains a colorful large map of Burma and Thailand, providing topography detail with an impressive three-dimensional quality. A legend at bottom identifies railroads, roads, tracks, trails, and rivers. Prepared by the Army Information Branch and issued by the U.S. Government Printing Office.
From 1942-46, the U.S. Army published "newsmaps" to keep American troops updated on the war. These weekly posters were distributed and posted in every American installation in the world and were intentionally more visual than descriptive to help engage and motivate personnel.
