This map is based on the second state of Delisle's 1700 foundation map of Africa. The Nile is correctly shown with its origins in Abyssinia and the other major rivers are shown fairly accurately. Several native kingdoms are named, along with numerous notations. The title cartouche was also copied from Delisle's map and includes elephants, an ostrich, natives and a man wrestling a crocodile.

Full contemporary color with light soiling, scattered foxing, a stain in western Africa, and two small worm holes long the centerfold. There are archival repairs to a tear just above Madagascar, a short edge tear at right, and a centerfold separation at bottom. There is paper tape along the edges of the sheet on recto from previous framing.
