This large chart illustrates the Torres Strait, a 93-mile wide strait between mainland Australia and Papua New Guinea. There is excellent navigational detail throughout including soundings, shoals, anchorages, islands, passages, and more. The chart also names and locates several reefs including the large Warrior Reef, Long Reef, Dungeness Reef, and more. Two areas of water off the eastern coast of Cape York Peninsula are noted as "unknown parts, but considered dangerous." Price of "Prix. Deux Francs" is below the bottom border and a seller's stamp is adjacent to the title. Originally drafted in 1860, this edition is updated with corrections to 1872.
