This interesting trio of Mallet engravings show Indigenous people harvesting crops in the Caribbean. The first, published in Description de l'Univers (1683) with French text on verso, illustrates an early tobacco plantation. The second and third engravings appeared in Beschreibung des Gantzen Welt-Kreisses (1684) with alternate German titles above the upper neatline. They depict the cultivation of sugar and indigo. Taken together, these charming engravings provide an interesting look at the agricultural methods that yielded the prize crops of the New World.
