This uncommon and fascinating sheet illustrates the comet which transited the sky in March and April of 1742. At left is a celestial chart showing the constellations that were visible while the comet passed through the sky. At right is an armillary sphere showing the position of the comet. The comet in the night sky surrounded by stars is depicted at bottom center. She sheet also includes two decorative cartouches that provide details about the comet, with the upper cartouche flanked by astronomers.

Condition: B
A sharp impression with moderate soiling, faint scattered foxing, and remnants of hinge tape on verso. There are dampstains along the edges of the sheet, causing some tiny tears and chips, with two small pieces of non-archival tape along the top edge of the sheet, not affecting the image.
