This matching pair of maps are both oriented with west at the top and follow the Rhine River from Seltz, France to Basel, Switzerland. Strasbourg, France is prominently shown on both sheets. The maps are fully engraved to illustrate the rivers, forests and mountains and locate hundreds of tiny villages. French text on verso, published between 1639-49.
A. Alsatia Inferior, (17.1 x 14.3"). A handsome map of the region around Strasbourg and the Rhine River, extending from Seltz to Schoenau. The decorative cartouche encloses the title and distance scale and is surmounted by the coat of arms and flanked by two maidens bearing grapes.
B. Alsatia Superior cum Suntgoia et Brisgoia, (18.8 x 14.3"). The map follows the Rhine River from Strasbourg to Basel, and is adorned with monument-style cartouches.
