This intricate plan of the French Mediterranean city shows fortifications, troop positions, ships in harbor, etc. This scene depicts the siege of Toulon by the British fleet in August 1707 during the War of the Spanish Succession. The inset plan at bottom left shows the advancing of the guards. Finely engraved by James Basire.

A nice impression on a sheet with the watermarks of "IV" and a fleur-de-lis. There is a hint of toning along the centerfold.
