A detailed map of the city in street-grid format with a legend at top identifying thoroughfares, highways, car lines and bus lines. The map further locates parks, lakes, golf courses, cemeteries, stockyards, municipal airport, and more. The verso features a small map of downtown Denver and “A Guide to Places of Interest in Denver” that lists many clubs and services for Service Men, including the “USO Club (Negro)…operated in the YMCA building, primarily for Negro men,” and the “USO Service Men’s Center (Negro)…furnished by the City of Denver with complete features and services.” Although the charter for the federally-funded USO forbade discrimination, USO practiced segregation from its inception as documented here. Segregation persisted in Denver following World War II and officially ended in Denver schools in 1951. However, the U.S. Supreme Court in 1973 ruled that the schools were de-facto segregated and ordered busing as a remedy. Published by the Denver Convention and Visitors Bureau. Folds into pictorial self-wrappers.
