This attractive map of Estonia and Latvia is filled with hundreds of tiny villages, forests, marshes, mountains, and rivers. It locates several fortified towns, including Riga, Revel (Tallinn), Hapsal (Haapsalu), Derpt (Tartu), Narva, Goldingen(Kuldiga), and, peeking in at the northeastern corner of the map, St. Petersburg. The islands of Dagho (Saaramaa) and Oesel (Hiiumaa) are prominent in the Gulf of Riga. The lovely title cartouche was engraved by Abraham Drentwet and features Mercury, Ceres, and a fisherman. At bottom right, a putto with a compass reclines atop the distance scale cartouche. This fine map was later copied by Seutter's son-in-law Tobias Conrad Lotter.
