Very scarce and exquisite bird's-eye plan of Pisa. The detail is beautifully engraved so that the viewer can see the layout of the individual gardens, the magnificent cathedral, the water wells, and even the statue in the piazza. An inset view of the cathedral campanile shows the famous leaning tower that has become the present-day city's major attraction. The plan is embellished with strapwork cartouches for the title and key and the Medici coat of arms. While many of the views in De Wit's Townbook were re-issues of Jansson's plates, this is one of his rare original works, signed in the plate as such. This is the second state, with the addition of De Wit's imprint.

References: Van der Krogt (Vol. IV) #3417.

Condition: A

Excellent impression on a wide-margined sheet with minor toning and light foxing that is almost entirely confined to the margins. There is very light mat burn around the image and a crease at top right.
