This is an uncommon, slightly smaller edition of Pierre Mortier's map of the region from the Mediterranean through the Persian Gulf. Detail is omitted in favor of small Biblical depictions engraved within the map, including the Sermon on the Mount, Babylon, the Garden of Eden, Noah's Ark, and others. Three tiny ships sail in the Persian Gulf. The pictorial scale of miles is surmounted by a lion and a lamb with a serpent in an apple tree to the left. This edition varies slightly in size from the more common edition with French and Dutch titles; here, there is only the French title enclosed in a checkerboard-style cartouche at top.
