A lovely title page to Philippus Baldaeus' work covering eastern India and Sri Lanka. The title is presented on a rug which is draped on an elephant mounted by a military officer. In the foreground, natives present various goods representative of the region including jewelry, pottery, rope and coconuts. In the corner, a couple of docile-looking dogs observe the scene. Published in the third volume of John & Awnsham Churchill's A Collection of Voyages and Travels.
