This richly detailed hand-colored lithograph shows a life-sized male specimen of Naumann's thrush. "Drawn from Nature & on Stone by J. & E. Gould." John Gould (1804-81) created some of the most beautiful bird prints ever produced and was known throughout the world as "The Bird Man." This lithograph was published in the second volume of his 5-volume The Birds of Europe (1832-37). Printed by C. Hullmandel. The lot includes a sheet of text providing information about the bird's rarity in Europe, its appearance, and more.

Gorgeous full contemporary color. There are a couple edge tears and a piece of tape on recto, both in the right blank margin. A remnant of an embossed stamp appears in the bottom right corner. Text sheet also includes a small piece of tape on recto.
