This lot includes two identical well-preserved leaflets coded "7 F 6" that were produced by the Psychological Warfare Branch of the U.S. Army. These leaflets were dropped by U.S. forces on Filipino villages in advance of U.S. troop arrivals. The illustrations show boats, planes, and three American soldiers rushing onto a beach. One example is printed in red ink, the other in black.
The back of each leaflet contains English text. A portion of this text is shown below (see images for complete text):
"American and Philippine forces are liberating your country from Japanese oppression. Enemy air, land and sea forces have already suffered heavy reverses in the Leyte area."
"Stray away from the Japanese troops and any place where they are gathered together...and most important of all, at the first sign of our landing, move away from the beaches. Move inland as far as possible."
Accompanied by a confidential memo describing the purpose of the leaflets.
