This lot features 3 complete issues of The Columbian Magazine, including the January, February, and March 1788 issues along with a few pages from the April issue. Featured within the text are the following single-page plates:
A. A View of the New Market from the Corner of Shippen & Second-Streets Philada., by James Thackara (6.7 x 3.5").
B. A View of the Lighthouse on Cape Henlopen; Taken at Sea, August 1780, by James Trenchard (6.4 x 3.5"). Significant as the first lighthouse to appear in an American magazine.
C. An East View of the Meeting House in Hollis Street, Boston..., by John Vallance (6.7 x 5.1").
The text contains articles on a variety of topics, including slavery, some fiction, including a part of The Foresters, one the earliest American novels, and patriotic prose. Sadly, only two panels of the rare map of Pennsylvania remain. Disbound. Published by William Spotswood in Philadelphia.
