This is the British edition of this book, a companion to the television mini-series of the same title focused on the history of map-making and how humanity came to know the contours of the earth. It was published by George Philip Ltd. in association with IBM, with an introduction that notes the computer company's commitment to the environment. 192 pages, with a plethora of images, many in color, spanning from early maps to photographs taken from space. B. Mapping the World - Maps and Their History, by Nathaniel Harris, published 2002 (8.9 x 11.4"). This chronicle of cartographic history focuses on more than 70 maps, starting with a Babylonian world map from the sixth century B.C. and culminating in an aerial snapshot of Manhattan from 1996. The book is copiously illustrated with approximately 300 illustrations, most in color. 304 pages. Hardbound in illustrative stiff paper boards with dust jacket.
