This set of steel engraved celestial maps was produced for the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge by Mr. W. Newton from the catalogue of the Astronomical Society. The maps use the Gnomonic Projection and include all the stars up to the sixth magnitude, or those that can been seen with the naked eye. The constellations are shown in allegorical form and lightly hand-colored in pastel shades. The complete set is rarely seen on the market. Some marginal notes in manuscript brown ink, else very fine. Includes the text, explanation sheet. One chart is illustrated.
