Jesse Walter Fewkes was assigned by the Bureau of American Ethnology to compile a report on the Hopi. Believing that a series of pictures made by Hopi artists would be a valuable means of studying the symbolism of the tribe, he arranged for the best artists to make a series of drawings of all the katcinas which appear in Hopi festivals. From these drawings, heliotype prints were made to accompany his report. This plate depicts Tehabi, Tunwup Taamu, Kerwan and Mana.
