Documents the 1846-1847 journey of the advanced guard of the 'Army Of The West', and is written by the Brevet Major of the Corps of Topographical Engineers. Many full page engravings of the natives, rivers, sights, flora and fauna that were encountered. 40 lithographed plates and 3 plans. Missing folding map. Original cloth binding with paper label on spine. Label and cloth very worn. Light scattered foxing throughout. Image shown is the map of the Battle of Los Angeles.
