An lovely oval woodcut "modern" world map, based on Ortelius. Surrounded by a floral & vine leaf pattern and two strapwork cartouches containing German text. The gothic German title is in the upper margin. Ref: Shirley #163. Nice impression with attractive later coloring in the 16th century style. Margin of left bottom corner expertly replaced with facsimile of neatline and several wormholes filled throughout. Margins soiled. $1100 RESERVE
